Heroes of Olympus: The lost hero

I have really enjoyed reading the Percy Jackson series, and I think I have read them all. Just as I was wishing that I find something similar to read, a friend told me about the ‘Heroes of Olympus’ series which is a sequel to the Percy Jackson series. I was overjoyed and didn’t waste any time in getting my hands on ‘The Lost Hero’, book in this series. This is a book authored by Rick Riordan and was first published in October 2010 by Hyperion Books. The book is exactly 551 pages long and yes, the genre is fantasy-adventure. The great thing is, it also tells a lot about the Greek and Roman mythology. A good read for fans of this genre.

The plot (it’s a little long) goes like this - Jason wakes up on a bus to a museum, where he is sitting with a girl called Piper, who claims to be his girlfriend. There is another chap called Leo Valdez. Jason doesn’t remember them but they all seem to know him. At the museum, a child called Dylan turns into a monster. It is then Jason shows his powers to everyone. By then, Annabeth comes to their rescue. It turns out that she was looking for her missing boyfriend, Percy Jackson. She takes them to Camp- ‘Half Blood’- a place for children of Gods. Piper is the child of Aphrodite, Leo of Hephaestus and Jason of Zeus. Piper had the power to convince anyone or everyone to do something with her voice and Leo could create fire but was afraid. They discover they had to free Hera, the queen of Gods, who was trapped. Leo makes a mechanical dragon and with Jason, Piper and Coach Hedge (who is a satyr), set on their quest to save Hera.

The main characters are Jason, Piper, Leo and Coach Hedge. Jason can also control thunder and fly and his sister’s name is Thalia Grace. Piper’s father name is Tristan Mclean, who is a very rich actor. Leo’s mother died in her shop by fire and that’s why he was afraid to use his powers.

Phew! That was a long one indeed. Read the book, its really enjoyable.

However, my suggestion is one should read Percy Jackson series before reading the Heroes of Olympus series for a better understanding. After reading the lost hero, I recommend reading the next book in the series, Heroes of Olympus: The son of Olympus.

I give this book 4.1 out of 5 stars.
